Huge demand for meetings moves 3Com to Sharp NoteVision LCD Projectors
One of the consequence of
rapid growth is a need for meetings: strategy meetings, production meetings,
marketing meetings, and plenty of training for new employees. So naturally
meeting facilities and equipment are high priorities at 3Com Corporation,
one of Chicago’s fastest growing companies.
"We have a huge need for meetings at 3Com," says Mark Skalman, Meeting Coordinator
for 3Com in Mount Prospect. "The Mount Prospect 3Com facility has fifty conference
rooms, and there is a need for LCD projectors in probably thirty of
them. People use them constantly, mainly for PowerPoint presentations."
3Com uses the facility to manufacture network cards, servers and chassis,
and to house research and development, marketing, IT and support staff.
The projectors are popular, says Skalman, because "it's more cost effective
and it's easier to create visuals for our customers. We don't have to
run to the copy shop and have them make up transparencies. When there’s
a change, we can just change it on the computer. For that reason, I
would say about 50% of our meetings use LCD projectors."
The decision to buy the new
Sharp NoteVision projectors, says Skalman, was easy to make. "I did a head
to head demo with some of the other units. Basically what sold them
for me was their brightness. When you go from our old projectors to
the new ones, it’s not even close, especially if you’re using rooms
where you have windows. And when Sharp developed their new chip that
compressed the XGA the combination blew me away. You just couldn’t beat
The decision to buy from
United Visual was also easy. "I used a different a/v company before
I started at 3Com," says Skalman. "But when I came here, Mike Maturo
was the one who showed me he really wanted my business." That desire
to help has continued after the purchase. "Mike’s great!" Skalman says.
"He gets back to me as soon I need him to. I know that he's busy, but
if I leave him a voicemail the turnaround is very short. He gets me
my faxes and my quotes as soon as I need them. He's willing to come
out and demo any product that I want. He's a great help."
