The
National Association of Realtors (NAR) is the world’s largest trade
organization, with 1,700 chapters and more than 730,000 members. The
NAR communicates constantly with its vast network of constituents, and
much of that communication is done from its exquisitely designed, technologically
up-to-the-minute Executive Boardroom, located in downtown Chicago.
The room’s centerpiece is
a burled-walnut conference table that seats 16, and an impressive array
of presentation technology recessed into the walls, ceiling and furniture,
ready to go at a moment’s notice. Recessed covers in the conference
table flip up to provide meeting participants with full connectivity
to the corporate LAN, Internet, projector or dual plasma screens. If
participants want to use the room’s projector, both a screen and the
projector emerge from the ceiling, and blackout shades descend to cover
the windows. Need to conduct a videoconference? Push a button on the
control panel and two side-by-side plasma screens emerge from the credenza,
translucent window screens descend to diffuse the outside light, and
fluorescent lighting specially designed to cast a soft glow on meeting
participants is automatically activated. The twin plasma screens can
be used for anything form side-by-side document comparisons to two-way
videoconferencing and video.
This
impressive combination of technological savvy and architectural ingenuity
is what earned the NAR’s Executive Boardroom this year’s Grand Prize.
